The Ralph and Eloise DeFalco Scholarship
No longer accepting applications for 2026-2027
The Ralph and Eloise DeFalco Scholarship
Ralph DeFalco was an internationally recognized serologist and Professor of Zoology at Rutgers University. In addition to his scholarly and teaching activities, he devoted much of his time to counseling and placement of undergraduates in medical and dental schools. It was his intense interest in the undergraduate program as a student and as a person that endeared him to many.
Eloise DeFalco was a medical technologist (MT, ASCP) and Teaching Assistant/Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology at Raritan Valley Community College. She, like her husband, derived great satisfaction from interacting with her students and from providing support and encouragement as they pursued their chosen healthcare profession.
To be awarded the scholarship, the student must demonstrate high academic achievement and potential for excellence in biology or a health-related field. The purpose of the award is to recognize past academic performance and to assist in the future undergraduate studies while at Rutgers.

Division of Life Sciences Undergraduate Student Support Awards
Undergraduate research is an important part of our life science majors’ educational experience. The opportunity to receive training as a research scientist by conducting original research provides a strong foundation for pursuing graduate school and research careers. The Division of Life Sciences Undergraduate Student Support Fund supports the professional development of our student researchers by funding their attendance at scientific conferences and the presentation of their research findings. It also helps financially support students with aspects of the application process for graduate research programs. A portion of the funds is available as an emergency fund for our undergraduate students should urgent financial needs arise. A limited number of stipends, up to $350 each, will be awarded. Students' financial situation will be taken into account in the award process.
The stipend award is open to SAS Students who are declared Life Science majors (Biological Science (119), Cell Biology and Neuroscience (146), Genetics (447), and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (694)).
Students may apply for a stipend for one of the following:
1) Offset the cost of attending scientific conferences where students will present their research performed in the laboratory of Rutgers-NB life science faculty or while enrolled in the Internship in the Life Sciences (01:119:205) course.
2) Financially assist with aspects of the application process for graduate programs in the life sciences (health professions programs are not covered).
