Summer 2026 Course Offerings - Wait Lists/Special Permission Numbers(SPNs)/Pre-Req Override Request Guidance

 Registration will begin on Monday February 9, 2026  for Summer 2026 courses.  

The Division of Life Science-Office of Undergraduate Instruction knows it is challenging and stressful for students when courses are closed, so we are using the SPN Request System  for many of our courses to help accommodate as many students as possible and streamline the SPN  process. Additional guidelines can be found here: Student Guide Special Permission System.

Please note there are three main scenarios with our courses.

1) A course may not have wait list or provide SPNs to register for closed sections. The instructions will indicate that students will need to continue to monitor web-reg for openings to add the course. 

2) A course, even when open, may require an spn for registration. By submitting a request for an spn, you may hear back quickly,  once reviewed and verified that you meet the necessary prereqs, major restrictions, or other requirement for the spn.   

3) A course, once it has initially closed, will not reopen on web-reg, even when someone drops the course.  The only way to be added to the course is with an spn. In this situation, the spn request system works as a wait list and as seats become available students are added from the list. Student may not receive an SPN unless a seat becomes available. Please add your name to the wait list if you want to enroll in the course.

Please note the system does not notify students unless they can be accommodated. SPNs are distributed throughout from registration through the end of drop/add. We ask that if you are provided an spn for a course and choose not to use it, please forward the email to our office at This email address is being protected from spambots.
