Major: Biological Sciences
Minor: Nutritional Sciences
How did you decide on your major?
My cousin was a biological science major who graduated from Rutgers before the year I became a freshman. He helped me look into the majors and compare them. I was considering CBN and exercise science at one point but ended up picking Bio because I found out that I could also finish a minor using the biological sciences classes.
What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?
I loved the array of options that I could pick from when it came to classes. The Biological Sciences major can be fulfilled by a wide range of classes that cater to the student’s needs. I chose medicine as my career choice because I felt like it was a personal calling for me. Also, after looking into the other career choices, I do not imagine myself doing anything other than becoming a physician.
Do you have favorite class/professor within your major?
My two favorite professors/ classes were Dr. Schjott for Essentials of CBN and Dr. Soliman for Genetics.
What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?
I loved being a part of my organization, Orthodox Christian Campus Ministry. Also, I loved playing in the intermural tournaments the school would organize. I would sign up with a group of my friends to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball every semester.
What are your other Rutgers activities?
A big part of my college experience was my service at my church. I would go weekly to teach at Sunday School. Serving the homeless in New Brunswick was also a big part of my experience.
What are your plans following graduation?
My plans after graduation consist mostly of traveling. I want to tour Europe. Working will also be a big part of my gap year since I will be applying for medical school this cycle.
Anything else you would like to share?
A special thanks go out to the advising staff for the Biological Sciences Major, Dr. Carr-Schmid especially. Whenever I had a question, even if it was not about the major, I would go to her, and she would always give me the right answer or direct me to the right people. She never rushed our meetings even when there were a lot of people waiting.
