AmoghKudva squre candidpic   Major: Biological Sciences

BA/MD Rutgers/Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Medical School Joint Program

How did you decide on your major?

I’ve always been captivated by the life sciences. The Biological Sciences major allowed me to explore so many areas within the sciences that I would not have gotten had I majored in something more specific.

What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?

As my dream is to become a physician, the Biological Sciences major gave me lots of background in many different areas of the life sciences. In addition to the premed course requirements, I explored areas of neuroscience,   microbiology, and parasitology, to name a few. This flexibility was only possible through my choice of major.

Do you have favorite class/professor within your major?

My favorite class was Human Parasitology. It was a great class that delved into different parasites and helped me better understand microorganisms present everywhere in the world.

What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?

I loved serving as a General Physics 1 and 2 Teaching Assistant (TA). It was so rewarding helping other student better understand physics concepts and working with them to solve problems.

What are your other Rutgers activities?

On campus, I was the president of Future Healthcare Administrators (FHA) and was involved with research in Dr. Lei Yu’s Pharmacogenetics lab. Off campus, I helped found a student-run organization called Project Meducate that runs free health clinics and seminars in underserved areas of New Jersey. I was also an EMT at South Plainfield EMS.

What are your plans following graduation?

I am currently in the BA/MD Rutgers/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Joint Program, so I am in my first year of medical school! I’m elated that I am much closer to my dream of becoming a physician.
