Major: Biological Sciences
How did you decide on your major?
I love the human body and every time I learn more about it, I become more thankful for every part of my body, from the microscopic level to the macroscopic level, because each component is hard at work to keep me alive. Being in this field of biology makes me constantly be more amazed and thankful about the human body.
What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?
I love the versatility of biology! Although I am most interested in learning about the human body, being a biology major allowed me the option to take classes on animals, fungi, plants, and bacteria, and it was a memorable experience throughout undergrad learning about how different organisms can be psychologically, physiologically, and anatomically. I never felt bored being a biology major because there was always so much to know and learn.
Do you have favorite class/professor within your major?
One of my favorite professors has been Dr. Sukhdeo for Evolution of Animal Behavior. I would look forward to her class every week because I always learned something interesting about animals and she always made me laugh with her jokes.
What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?
I taught my own FIGS class called Health and Medicine at Rutgers! It was so rewarding having the opportunity to help underclassmen get exposed to opportunities that I wish I knew about when I started college. Not only did I have the honor to teach them, but I was constantly learning from my own students during my time teaching as well.
What are your other Rutgers activities?
I was a medical scribe at the emergency department for RWJ and I also volunteered for Gentiva Hospice. In research, I was a research assistant for the Raskin Lab at Rutgers and the Alavi Lab at UPenn. Outside of science, I love to fish, play videogames and run!
What are your plans following graduation?
I will apply to medical school and work as a researcher in my gap year!
