• The course will be taught by three CBN faculty members, each responsible for teaching a module on a topic of choice. Each module consists of a mixture of lectures by the teaching faculty and student presentation/discussion of assigned primary research articles. Each student will also be required to write a brief critical review of the assigned research papers. Topics include mammalian brain development, sensory system development and function, and cortical circuit function and plasticity.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of Neurobiology (146:245) and Fundamentals of Cell Biology (146:270), plus at least 1 Advanced course (Advanced Neurobiology I 01:146:445, Advanced Neurobiology II 01:146:447, Advanced Cell Bio 01:146:470 or Advanced Developmental Biology 01:146:472) and 1 hands-on research course (Research in CBN 01:146:307-308 or 1:146:406-407, Advanced Neurobiology Lab 01:146:448, Advanced Cell Bio Lab 01:146:471, 1 semester of Independent study 01:146:201-202 or Honors Research 01:146:408-409).

Grading Policy

The final grade in this course will be based upon student presentation (50%), class participation (20%), and a written paper (30% of the grade).
