Course Syllabus
Course Description
Human Parasitology Lab covers the biology, morphology, pathogenesis, and treatment of major human parasite diseases. Students will learn basic techniques commonly used in parasitology and will also read and discuss current scientific papers from parasitology journals.
Topics include:
- Adult Trematodes
- Larval Trematodes
- Adult Cestodes
- Larval Cestodes
- Intestinal Nematodes
- Tissue Nematodes
- Amoebae, Flagellates and Ciliates
- Trypanosomes and Leishmania
- Toxoplasma
- Malaria
- Arthropods
Course Satisfies Departmental Learning Goals
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify many of the organisms which cause much of the morbidity and mortality in underdeveloped countries. Throughout the semester, students will be expected to organize information and understand the relevance of these disease organisms to human health and our society. Consistent with those set by the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, as well as the Division of Life Sciences at Rutgers University
