This intensive course is suitable for Life Science majors and graduate students with a strong background in the Biological Sciences.
This course may be used to fulfill the elective requirements of the Biological Sciences major.

This course, taught by about 4 professors, addresses advanced concepts of cell biology, focusing on the molecular organization of cells, including internal membranes and synthesis of macromolecules, the cell nucleus, the cell cycle, cytoskeleton, cell-cell adhesion and the extra-cellular matrix, and signal transduction.

Course Satisfies Learning Goals
Master factual and conceptual knowledge in cell biology that will provide a solid foundation for success in advanced training and professional careers. Develop an ability to summarize, integrate and organize information. Use scientific reasoning to evaluate the potential for current research and new discoveries to improve our understanding of cell biology and neuroscience and its relevance to human health and to our society. These goals are consistent with those set by the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, as well as the Division of Life Sciences at Rutgers University
Exams, Assignments, and Grading Policy
3, 80-minute exams plus a comprehensive final will count for 100% of the grade. The exam policy posted on the course Sakai site will be strictly enforced during exams. There is no mechanism in place to earn extra credit for the purpose of raising a grade.
Graduate students (all students registered for 148:514) will answer a comprehensive essay question, worth 10% of the final grade, during the final exam.
