Genetics 01:447:380 or Genetic Analysis I 01:447:384 and General Biology Lab 01:119:117 or 01:119:102

Course Description

This course will focus on the organization, function and evolution of the human genome. The topics will include next generation sequencing methods, human variation, disease gene mapping, cancer genomics, epigenetics, transcriptional and post-transcriptional control, human demography, Neanderthal genomes and genome evolution.

3. Use genetic information and ideas to critically analyze published research articles in genetics.

Exams, Assignments, and Grading Policy

There will be two in-class midterm exams, a cumulative final exam, a group presentation and several homework problem sets.

Course Materials

There will not be a textbook for the course. There will be materials posted on the Sakai site of the course including Powerpoint slides and papers from the literature or textbook chapters, when suitable.
