Cell Biology and Neuroscience Courses

This course is intended for Life Science majors or those with a strong background in the Biological Sciences.

This course may be used to fulfill the elective requirements of the Biological Sciences major.

Course Description

An introduction to how living cells work; analysis of how DNA, RNA, and proteins cooperate allowing cells to move, grow, divide, take up molecules, and respond to various stimuli.  Practical applications of cell biology.

1. Master factual and conceptual knowledge in cell biology and neuroscience that will provide a solid foundation for success in advanced training and professional careers.

2. Develop an ability to summarize, integrate and organize information.

3. Use scientific reasoning to evaluate the potential for current research and new discoveries to improve our understanding of cell biology and neuroscience and its relevance to human health and to our society.

4. To understand and develop an appreciation for research as the basis of scientific study.

5. To understand and to appreciate the process of science. To acquire the ability to use scientific reasoning as embodied by the structured process commonly known as the scientific method.

Exams, Assignments, and Grading Policy

Two 80 minute period exams plus a final exam.  Textbook reading assignments are made that supplement lecture material.  Final grades for each student are based solely on examination performance.
