This course is intended for Life Science majors or those with a strong background in the Biological Sciences.
This course may be used to fulfill the elective requirements of the Biological Sciences major.
General Biology 119:115-116 or 119:101-102, or by special permission.
An introductory analysis to the dynamics of cell organization, structure, function, and metabolism. Topics to be discussed in depth include gene expression, membrane structure and transport, cell compartmentalization, intracelluar transport, cell signaling, the cytoskeleton, cell motility, cell division, the cell cycle, and cancer.

1. Master factual and conceptual knowledge in cell biology that will provide a solid foundation for success in advanced training and professional careers.
2. Develop an ability to summarize, integrate, and organize information.
3. Use scientific reasoning to evaluate the potential for current research and new discoveries to improve our understanding of cell biology and its relevance to human health and to our society.
Exams, Assignments, and Grading Policy
Two 80 minute period exams plus a final exam. Assigned reading from the required course textbook and select scientific journals supplement the lecture material.
Final grades for each student are based solely upon examination performance.
